The IrishJack Physique
The variation in the IrishJack is one of the signs of a healthy breeding population with a lack of congential defects and other genetic diseases. To further increase hardiness we do not inbreed our lines.
The variation of form and color is one of the most exciting aspects to the IrishJack!
There is no "typical" IrishJack. Some are really short and low to the ground, some are muscled like a body builder, some are sculpted like a statue. The height and color can vary widely even between litter mates!
We breed for great temperaments!
There is also no such thing as the proper color, pattern, coat length or ears! We enjoy our pups with unusual colors such as our Black & Tans and brownies. We enjoy them with blue-eyes, smooth coats, rough coats, floppy ears, prick ears... You get the idea! :) The only consistent feature with the IrishJack is the temperament.
We are always available to answer any questions about the physical characteristics of our pups.
Our Jack Russells range in height from 8"- 15" and can weigh anywhere between 6 lbs and 32 lbs., but most puppies are between 8" to 12" high, and between 11 lbs and 18 lbs.
Most are small enough to scoop up in one hand and are therefore are very easy to travel with and have around all the time!
We love our Jacks in any form!
Coat Types
Smooth Coat Broken Coat Rough Coat
Smooth is the most common coat for the IrishJack. Less commonly we see broken coats and rough coated pups.
Jack Russells do shed, but not very much! Most of our Jacks have short hair with smooth coats, so shedding is really very minimal. Rough coats can shed less then the smooth on occasion.
We recommend that you give your little Jack a regular bath in good quality shampoo (and keep them off your black Levi's if you are going out!)
We have four of our own Jacks. Most people who come by our home comment on how very few hairs can be seen, in fact if you did not know we had Jacks you certainly could not tell because of the lack of hair from shedding.
Colors
Below are the nine types of coat colorings.
Variety in colors is one reason our clients have fallen in love with this breed.
Our photo galleries that span our Jack Russell experiences since 1996 have lots of pictures of what our Irish Jacks can look like.
Ears
An IrishJacks's ears can be 'flop over', or 'straight up'. This is simply a matter of breeding and of course your personal choice. We have both ears types in our own Jacks. The 'stand up' ears are very cute looking and give the Jack that 'always attentive' look. Ears are not supposed to be up or down.In fact our Cryssie sometimes has one ear up and one ear down!!!
In these 3 pictures you can see; up, down and up and down ears! Sometimes we will have a litter of puppies from our own Jade (down ears) with a stud dog with down ear and as the puppies mature we never know whose ears are going to stand up and whose are not. Even with some of 4-5 generations of Jacks with down ears we have no way to guarantee that one day you will not see a puppy with up ears from those lines.
People are often amazed at how calm, well-behaved, and pleasant our JRT's are. They are perfect little ladies and gentlemen.
We do always explain however, that they didn't come that way, they are like that because of how we have raised and cared for them. This is the key. If you are not prepared to dedicate yourself to the responsibility of properly caring for a Jack Russell, we do not recommend this breed to you.
*Please note that our dogs are well-bred, but must be properly raised and cared for in order to be the delightful, entertaining companions that we want them to be.
Their temperaments are perfectly suited to home living, to being around children of all ages and to being with other pets.
