The IrishJack difference...

In a nutshell, everything you have ever read or heard saying the Jack Russell is a hyper-active, high-strung dog that is hard to train, difficult to control, will kill your cat, not tolerate your children, will run away, and so on,  is true and these things are correct. However, this information pertains to the Parson Russell variety, a prey-driven, working, hunting terrier. All of the charactertistics that make the Parson a tenacious and worthy hunter are the same character traits that make it not the best pet, especially, for your average family household. In other words, it's not a bad dog, it's just NOT a dog that is bred to be a pet — bad pet, excellent hunting dog.

The IrishJack, on the other hand, makes the absolute finest and the best pet and companion dog ever, but, not the best hunting dog, definitely not…

Our dogs, the Irish Jack Russells, are bred and selected exclusively for companion purposes.

The hallmark of the Irish Jack Russell is adaptability

Sonny learns to cart!

VMF's own Cryssie & Elvis

After many obedience and agility accomplishments, SONNY! and his owner Jaklean have been taking classes to teach him to pull a cart.

He is a tiny guy, right in the footsteps of his father The Famous ELVIS.. Because of size Jaklean had to have a special cart and harness custom-made just for him.

Our IrishJacks have an ideal temperament for life with you and your family. The combination of intellegence, willingness to please and calm disposition have earned our Irish Jack Russells the reputation for being the coolest dogs!

Our Jack Russells are suited to virtually any living situation. Because an IrishJack's first priority is to be with its family, it doesn't matter so much — what you are doing, how you are doing it, where you are doing it or even whom you are doing it with! As long as they are doing it with you, an IrishJack will be content. Our clients live with their Irish Jack Russells in everything from tiny New York City apartments to giant working horse farms. The basic requirement for any of our Irish Jack Russells is your companionship. As long as they have their family or their person to be with, they will adapt and be happy.

Our IrishJacks have, what we like to refer to as 'appropriate behavior' in the sense that, when it's playtime, they'll step right up to the plate and they just won't quit- until you say so, that is. (Susan's IJs will run right along side her when she's on a horse!) However, when it's time to chill out and relax on the sofa and watch tv, well, they'll cuddle right up with you and enjoy the show...

The size and easy going nature of our Jack Russells allows you to take your dog along with you most places you go. Our Jacks travel well and are always ready to accompany you to work, school or play! (»see Keith's story here) We take or dogs along with us practically everywhere we go because we can and because we enjoy it and because they do, too!

The IrishJack Russell comes directly from the vintage working farm terriers that are common all over Ireland. Through the generations, our dogs have been bred to be healthy, hardy, easy to work with and very easy to live with. Well-raised and properly socialized, they adapt to any situation and get along with everyone and everything. At times, even we have found some of the most wonderful stories from our clients to be hard to believe! Like our client who raises rabbits (natural prey for any type of terrier); when it's time for the bunnies to come in, it's the IrishJack who herds 'em on home!!!

The Irish Jack Russell has been most often identified as, the short-legged type of Jack, or affectionately called little pudding dogs, potbellies, shorties and puddins or simply the old-fashioned Jack Russell Terrier. They are not to be confused with the 'Parson' Russell variety, which is the terrier recently recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Both Eddie, from the TV show Frazier and Wishbone are Parson Russell Terriers: generally taller and longer legged but, most importantly bred, primarily, to be hunting dogs or working terriers.

Because our pups are not bred to have extreme hunting abilities, they make better pets. They are really great with other house pets, and with children of all ages — » see picture gallery. The average Parson Russell Terrier's instinct and desire to hunt is greater than its desire to please. We strive for the opposite.
